Sri Lanka was affected severely by the Tsunami on 26 December 2004. Even as the terrible devastation in the aftermath of this catastrophe unfolded on TV screens across the globe, many KPMG offices and staff responded generously and promptly offered assistance to the victims. Initially, a KPMG Educational Trust Fund was set up to provide scholarships for children affected by the disaster. Many scholarships have been awarded to date.
Tsunami victims were mainly affected due to unprecedented damage to property which compelled people to occupy tents in hastily set up camps undergoing severe hardships. "KPMG FOUNDATION" was formed to address needs for housing in affected areas, with a target of raising a million U.S. dollars for improving the lives of the needy.
KPMG VILLAGE MATARA This Housing Project was ceremonially inaugurated on 16 June 2005 to construct 40 single story detached houses. KPMG Village Matara was formally opened on 1 December 2005 by Mr. Aidan Walsh, Partner KPMG in the U.S. The scenes below show progress of the housing project under construction; bringing back hope and promise of normalcy to lives of 40 families affected by tsunami.

KPMG VILLAGE JAFFNA Was inaugurated on 6 August 2005 in Punithanagar, Katkovalam, Point Pedro, and Jaffna, with our initial target is to build 50 detached houses. As planned we have completed Phase I (15 houses) of the Project and the completed houses have been handed over to the beneficiaries on 27 February 2006. In order to provide easy access to the houses we have also completed the construction of a 500mt by-lane connecting the main road and the Village. This by-lane will be named "KPMG Road". We intend completing Phase II (15 houses) by April 2006, and Phase III (20 houses) by June 2006.
The opening ceremony will be held in the presence of Mr. Dirk Berkmeyer, Partner KPMG in Frankfurt, Germany

KPMG VILLAGE KINNIYA The project for 40 houses was inaugurated with a small ceremony on 30th August 2005 and after completion it is to be launched in the presence of Mr. Jamal Fakhro of KPMG in Bahrain.
